causing a scene in luxembourg

Just how obnoxious is this extraordinarily large red (velvet) bow atop my head? Well, when you multiply your answer times 73, you can begin to understand the french population's disdain. Whateva, I just really enjoy roaming around Paris in a huge red bow and a paint-splattered Mickey Mouse t-shirt. Speaking of the t-shirt, I received this from my best friend's mother last summer and I became obsessed with it. I mean I still am, I wear it under all of my clothes. Anyway, when I was packing to move to France, my new yet old beloved t-shirt was nowhere to be found. I freaked out and frantically tore apart my house, only to be forced to leave without it. Convinced my older brother stole it (he likes Disney way too much), I wept like a baby daddy finding out he's a baby daddy. Until I went home for break and pulled down my bathrobe from a shelf in the closet. There, hidden in the bathrobe, gleaming like treasure, was this faded Mickey Mouse shirt. I then wept like a baby daddy finding out the baby isn't his. Needless to say, this isn't the last time you'll be seeing this shirt.

That awkward moment when you carry an extremely heavy metal chair across the beautiful Luxembourg gardens and have a really tough time carrying it because your hands and legs are numb from the cold.

i miss going outside

Flashback to last semester. A Friday afternoon in November by the river on a beautiful day with Kylie Monet, who of course took these pretty photos. I was playing with my "cape", which consequently doubles as a blanket. I miss those times when I could go play outside in the city. These days, I have the privilege of dealing with this:
PhotobucketAre you kidding? I can ice skate in the Hotel de Ville fountain? It's just not okay. And I feel so bad for those poor horses who froze to death trying as hard as they could to gallop into to the nearest fireplace.
PhotobucketAs for me, I've surrendered to the cold and now wear 36 layers whenever leaving the apartment (which I guess is nothing new). I'm forced to enjoy indoor activities, like museums. Luckily, having a staring contest with the scariest man in the Musée des Beaux-Art never gets old.

treasure and bleu cheese

A little about the clothes- the perfect dress and lace gold top were both found in my mother's closet, of course. It's a literal treasure chest, hence the solid gold. Since going home, I've revamped my wardrobe a bit, swapped things out, and added items from the Value Village (more on that later). Although, these changes are not apparent considering it is 19 degrees outdoors, therefore I "am forced" to wear an average of 9+ layers before leaving the apartment. My new standard of dressing: If I'm not dying from heat stroke in the apartment,  I am obviously not wearing enough layers.

After visiting America for a short time, coming back to France was like meeting up with that old friend who smells like stinky bleu cheese. You just get used to it after awhile, maybe even learn to like it. It's different, it's hip to reek, so you just roll with it and pretend you never left. Lyon is the same city, but I have relocated. I've now been in my artistic ass apartment for one whole month and I couldn't be happier about my new living situation. Life is always a surprise (party).

As today is the last day of November, I am proud to announce that I this officially marks my twentieth blog of the month. That makes a whole 18 more posts than last month. I know I said everyday, but 20 out of 30 is what? 66.666666%, a solid D. However, I live in France. Therefore, I can submit myself to the french grading scale where a 14 out of 20 is an A+. Merci, la France.

I guess I shouldn't lie about the whole 20 thing. These pictures are remnants of my 20th birthday (that was at the beginning of October). I don't think I posted on my birthday, because I happened to be under the influence of the stomach flu. With that said, I did manage to slip into this bright orange and green ensemble and it did make me feel a little bit better as did the giant french feast I consumed. Now, in the midst of winter, it serves as a nice flashback to sunnier days and exposed limbs. Even though it's freezing outside, hopefully this outfit made you feel a little warmer on the inside. Although, I'm sure you are probably reading this post with the heat turned on high while sipping a Starbucks gingerbread latte and listening to Nat King Cole's Christmas album. Oh December, get at me.

jared's trousers

Photobucket

These were my brother's trousers. He used to work at Disneyland and these were a part of his uniform. Yes, he never gave the uniform back. So, I stole them and I love them.

My photographer made me sit on this wall.

The things I do for blog photos. I must really like you guys.

I was scared.

Do you see that drop? This is my "I'm so scared, I'm going to fall off this wall, it smells like pee smile."

The moral of this story is to conquer your fears, wear things you would never think of wearing, and steal from your brother, especially if he worked at Disneyland. À demain!

skirt over pants, namely jeans

This happened today:

Photobucket

Mmhmm.

Photobucket

For once in my life, I kid you not. November 23rd. Skirt over pants. I'm sorry, no other photos were taken and I'm sorry I'm headless in these pictures. All I have are these petite photo booth pictures that I took to make sure I looked crazy before leaving to go to school. I really wish I could have captured the disgusted, yet curious expressions of the French people I walked by. They couldn't figure out what hit them. Mission accomplished.

As you can see from these pictures, it seems winter has officially fallen upon Lyon. I promise, it is getting ridiculously cold outside, don't let the sun fool you. The city is constantly freezing and I've got a bad feeling it's not going to let up anytime soon. This is my favorite and only winter coat. Good thing it's white; it will never get dirty (except every time I wear it). More important than the coat are the clogs on my feet. I'm quite surprised the clogs haven't made it into a post yet. I found these bad girls in my grandparent's house. They evidently belonged to my auntie in the late 70s. Needless to say, they are a great addition to my collection of stolen items and I love them more than anyone born after 1967 should.

Photos taken by the camera's auto timer

Black cape- vintage, blue dress- vintage, tights, and boots- Steve Madden

Well, there are two (possibly three) alarming things about this post. The obvious first is that yes, I did indeed resort to auto timer while all of my friends were out of the country. I believe this just shows serious blogging dedication and not a ridiculous amount of self absorption and embarrassment. I can't wait to post the outtakes, actually I'll probably wait at least until I'm dead. The second, not so obvious, alarming thing is the cape. Or is it a cape? No, no it is not. Ready for a DYI DIY? (Dad, that means "do it yourself") Take your most awkwardly lengthened maxi skirt and put it around your neck. (Dad, please don't do this yourself) I'm being real here, I am definitely wearing a skirt around my neck. I warned you that pure insanity creativity would commence. The third possibly alarming thing? That blue "dress" is actually a skirt. Oops. . . but did you notice?

Today's serious life lesson:

Photobucket

We must learn . . .

Photobucket

. . . to appreciate . . .

Photobucket

. . . beauty.
